I am a 2nd-year nurse anesthesia student. I am looking forward to graduating in August of 2021 with a Doctorate in Nurse Anesthesia! It’s been a long road, but I’m grateful and it took God, determination, and a lot of hard work to get to this position. Before getting into CRNA school, I was a Registered Nurse for a total of 3.5 years. I spent 1.5 years working in the emergency department (ED), and 2.5 years working in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU). Before nursing school, I worked in banking and customer service. I wasn’t familiar with the anesthesia side of nursing before going to nursing school. It wasn’t until my boyfriend, who was a medical resident at the time, introduced me to the field. After a ton of research, I quickly contacted a CRNA to shadow. During my shadowing experience, I knew that anesthesia was my calling.
I love Anesthesia! I love the ability to understand the what and why behind everything that I do. For every medication I give, I love being able to explain what is taking place down to the cellular level. The best part is when I administer the medication and see the real-time effects. It’s simply amazing. The autonomy to make decisions is something that drives me to be diligent in everything I do. The patient’s life is in my hands, and that is an honor.
